Steve Cowie

BSc, CPA – Manager, Tax

Steve grew up on Vancouver Island and found his way to Nanaimo after various careers. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of Victoria, he worked at a biotech lab cloning trees with desired characteristics for logging. He then returned to school at Camosun College to receive a Certificate in Dental Assisting, which he used to help children at a pediatric dental office receive necessary treatment. Steve’s large spectrum of career choices is due to his strong aspirations to learn, which aligns perfectly with his final choice of taxation since taxation is an ever changing and complex field that requires endless learning.

Steve received a Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting and Administration at Camosun College in 2017 and immediately joined public practice. In 2020, Steve received his Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation. Since Steve has an affinity for learning he has since specialized in tax by completing a 3-year In-depth tax course.

Steve’s professional passion is to help with Estate and Succession planning. He takes pride in helping others and using his knowledge to restructure businesses to meet the shareholders’ needs.

What do you think has made you successful?

I am a caring person behind my humor and wit. There is no better way to build trust with someone than to show them that you care and that you want to help. That goes for the people I work with at Pacific and the clients I work for.

What are your extracurricular passions?

I am obsessed with sports whether it be watching or playing. As a father my daily sports have naturally been reduced, but I still find time to play Softball. I love watching my kids play their various sports (Baseball, Basketball, Rugy, and Swimming). My daughter has joined Artistic Swimming which is very exciting as it now gives me the opportunity to combine my passions as I get to learn a new sport and watch a sport.
